A Year at Fox Heath
As the seasons change so does the focus of activities here at the farm.
Winter is the time of year when most riding is conducted in our large indoor. Between Christmas and News Years is our annual Holiday Horse Show. The Huntingdon Valley Hunt celebrates New Years Day at Fox Heath with a fox chase followed by a hunt breakfast. As winter settles in, it becomes a time to focus on the basics with gymnastics and other fun training exercises. Also scheduled are clinics with top national riders and trainers. Saturday afternoons offer Parelli training with Patty Renner. . . and when it snows, Geronimo, our driving pony, gives toboggan rides.
Spring marks the beginning of the horse show season. Students are offered the opportunity to compete at shows in the area. Devon is the highlight of this season. Over the years Fox Heath riders have won many ribbons and Championships there. The Huntingdon Valley Hunt hosts several spring events at Fox Heath. The first is a Hunter Pace held over the Memorial Day weekend. Competitors ride in pairs over the countryside following a marked course. Mid April is the Huntingdon Valley Hunt Horse Show, and in June is their Garden Party and Gala.
Summer kicks off 8 weeks of Day Camp and our Thursday Horse Show Series. The horse show season is now in full swing. Fox Heath travels to shows every weekend with students, and in August hosts a big Hunter/Jumper show at the farm. The days are long and there are many options for riding, including miles of trails that lead out from the farm.
Fall is when the fox chasing season starts. The Huntingdon Valley Hunt kennels it's hounds at Fox Heath. Hounds meet twice a week, weather permitting, beginning after Labor Day until the first of the New Year. Opening Meet and the Blessing of the Hounds is in early November. The Hunt also hosts a Fall Hunter Trials and Horse Show at the end of October and a Hunter Pace on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Fox Heath also holds a Hunter/Jumper Show at the end of September. In addition, the Saddlery and Boutique at Fox Heath conducts a fashion show held in the carriage house on the farm.
